Event Details

The Ontario Coalition of Aboriginal People invites you to attend a 2010 Aboriginal Health Forum, Addressing Aboriginal Mental Illnesses & the Criminal Justice System, September 9 - 10, 2010, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The Criminal Justice System in Canada has under its care one of the most vulnerable and mentally unhealthy populations anywhere. The prevalence of serious personality disorders, drug and alcohol dependence, suicidaland self-harming behaviour, and all forms of mental illness (both psychotic and neurotic) is alarmingly high -much higher than in the general population.

Healthcare staff (community health care representatives, doctors, nurses, mental health specialists, health-care officers, correctional officers, parole officers, psychologists and others) require good mental-health skills and knowledge to carry out their roles and responsibilities.

The forum offers a range of skills and knowledge to address Aboriginal Mental Illnesses & the Criminal Justice System. You will learn, network and discover new and innovative programs and approaches that may have an application to your physical, mental-emotional, social and spiritual dimensions of mental illnesses.
