The African Canadian Children's Literary Festival (ACCLF)--February 18th & 19th--is an annual festival dedicated to the celebration of education through reading, writing, spoken word, poetry and storytelling while promoting African culture, awareness and identity.
The 6th annual ACCLF will be held on February 18 and 19 2012 from 12 noon - 7: 00 p.m. at the York Woods Library Theatre, located at 1785 Finch Avenue W., west of Keele Street in Toronto. Free admission for everyone.
Saturday February 18, 2012 - Workshops & Youth Discussion Panel
Doors Open @ 12 Noon, Story TIme @ 1 p.m. Workshops Begin @ 2 p.m., Panel Begins @ 3: 30 p.m. - 7: 00 p.m.
The first day of the festival will feature story time and a literary Workshop. The second half of the day will include a youth discussion panel featuring youth spoken word artists.
Story Time @ 1: 00 p.m.
Literary authors will engage children, O - 12 years and their parents to sit and listen to their stories, followed by a book signing session.
Literary Workshop @ 2: 00 p.m.
The Workshop Word, Sound, Power will be facilitated by poets Melissa Dean “The Madd Poet & Peculiar I. The focus of the workshop is to help young writers, 10 - 18 years to explore their creativity and discover their voices.
Youth Discussion Panel @ 3: 30 p.m.
Achieving Higher Learning, is the theme of this year’s discussion. Designed to inspire youth, 14 - 24 years to aspire for post secondary success. Moderated by Abwoa Bey, the panel features four current African Canadian student club Presidents from local universities.
Sunday February 19, 2012 - Storytellers Festival
Doors Open @ 12 Noon, Show Begins @ 1 p.m.
The second day of the festival features storytellers Mutamba Rainos and Sandra Whiting, keynote speakers and performances by children and youth. This event also includes the launch of the second edition of the ACCLF Chatbook 2012. This book is a compilation of original poetry, short stories and visual art, from children and youth from 5 - 18 years of age. (A selected few will recite their entry at the event.)
