Justice for Alwy's 3rd annual Basketball Tournament and Community Gathering against Police Brutality is this Saturday!!! Don't miss it!!!

Since that last tournament, the need to unite in our communities and mobilize against Police violence and terrorism has become even clearer. In March 2010, the Province held a coroner's inquest into the death of Alwy Al Nadhir, (An 18 year old youth murdered by Toronto police on Halloween 2007, who the Campaign is named after). During the court proceedings all witnesses to the shooting testified that they saw or heard the cops kill Alwy while he was unarmed and as he was running. The two thug officers responsible for Alwy's death were caught lying on the stand, but despite this were still treated as heroes and at the end of the inquest walked out of the courtroom free. Alwy's brutal execution was basically seen as police doing their job.

Just a  week before Alwy's sham of an inquest, another provincial inquiry into the 2006 Police murder of 14 year old Duane Christian ended the same way; killer cops strolling out of the courtroom without as much as the lightest punishment for their crimes. The two inquests have shown we cannot rely on the government our court system to give us justice, that we need to organize to get that justice ourselves!

Than on May 5th of this year Toronto Police proved once again that for poor, black, brown and other racialized people in this city they are a force of violence, intimidation, and even outright murder. On York University's campus in broad daylight and in front of dozens of witnesses, two officers pulled over Junior Manon and his friend, chased Junior and witht he help of another 5 cops, beat the unarmed and defenceless 18 year old to death as he begged them to stop. The Media and Province than attempted to cover up this horrific crime by spinning the vicious lie that Junior collapsed from a heart attack despite the blood all over the scene and the eye witness accounts of 8 officers beating him. Being a well known and loved resident of the Shoreham area of Jane and Finch, Junior's death has not gone unnoticed and a massive campaign is being built to demand Justice and an end to Police Brutality in general.

Therefore its more important than ever for you to come out to our 3rd annual 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament Against Police Brutality, in memory of Alwy, Duane, Junior and all the victims of police Brutality in this city and beyond.

Sincerely,
