You’re invited to attend the  “Justice and Mental Health for
Youth”   forum on Friday, September 17th   from 8:30 AM  - 1:00 PM
at McGregor Park Community
Centre, 2231 Lawrence Avenue  East.
All are welcome to attend including youth, youth service providers,
educators,  policy makers, and others who are interested and committed
to   The purpose of
the forum is to:

1.      Increase the knowledge that youth service providers have about
existing mental health, justice and newcomer resources for youth;
2.      Identify challenges in the navigation of services  for all
youth
with an emphasis on  newcomer youth in the context of justice and
mental
health issues and;
3.      Identify strengths and opportunities for partnership and
possible next steps.

This interactive forum will provide opportunities for discussion,
question and answer and networking.
The morning will begin with a Keynote Address from the Provincial Child
and Youth Advocate, Irwin Elman.  Irwin has been a passionate youth
advocate for most of his career and understands that “…. youth [come
into contact with systems] through no fault of their own…they come
into
contact with our systems because they are in peril.”
The panel, moderated by Likwa Nkala, Community Development Specialist
at East Metro Youth Services will consist of representatives from the
justice, mental health and settlement services and will also include
the
voices of  youth who have experienced involvement in multiple systems.
