The “We Belong” Project Coordinator will implement the findings of the preceding “You Belong” youth asset mapping project and support the coordination of the Youth Service Network. The Youth Service Network (YSN) for Flemingdon Park, O’Connor, Thorncliffe and Victoria Village is a partnership consisting of youth service workers from community agencies, city divisions, community leaders and other interested parties who share the common focus of working directly with and supporting the engagement of Youth in the Flemingdon Park O’Connor Priority Neighborhood.
The objective of the “We Belong” project is to engage the youth and ensure the coordination of service across the neighbourhoods to address service gaps and provide services to youth and families that are accessible by all. The coordinator will be the catalyst that facilitates knowledge and resource sharing among the different neighbourhoods, the YSN, and the youth steering committee. This project is funded by the City of Toronto and involves a partnership between the Youth Service Network and Flemingdon Health Centre (Trustee and hiring organization).
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the WE Belong work plan as approved by the funder
Facilitate the implementation of the recommendations of the You Belong research framework
Coordinating the YSN and tracking and collecting all of the minutes and Youth Steering committee and other Workgroups if necessary
Regularly attend and participate in YSN Meetings and all related community and youth group meetings and support minute taking and links between groups
Strengthening promotion and communication of YSN supported activities with other stakeholders, funder and community residents
Support development and implementation of annual YSN strategic planning, goals and community engagement initiatives
On the direction of the YSN: support issues focused workgroups as required.
Maintain YSN records and membership contacts, qualitative and quantitative statistics tracking for evaluation and provide reports to the Funder and community residents as required;
Creation and promotion of a collaborative process with various service providers to create new opportunities for community stakeholders
Facilitate access to training opportunities, initiatives and workshops that will meet the needs of the local youth and YSN members
Supporting a grant writing process in partnership with other stakeholders to access resources and support sustainability of services
Liaise with service providers who work in: various settings like: the high schools, shelters, institutions and Not-For-Profit community organizations serving community to expand the membership and participation at the YSN
Developing, maintaining and facilitating the ongoing work of various local youth groups and committees.
Support issues raised/ incidents in the community, that require the development of creative youth service provision with appropriate reports and action;
Other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisors;
Qualifications:
Bachelor degree preferably in social or health sciences
Knowledge and experience in community development, relevant management of a multi-partnered stakeholder network is an asset
Well developed project management skills including defining project purpose and objectives, identifying project milestones and deliverables and leading projects through completion, terms of reference, consultation processes, budgeting and evaluation strategies.
Experience working with an anti-oppression and strength-based, asset focused frameworks
Highly proficient in computer applications including word, excel, power point and some familiarity with web based communications
Knowledge and experiences in community engagement; knowledge of current community issues relevant to the Flemingdon Park and O’Connor Priority Neighbourhood is an asset
Highly skilled facilitation, presentation and interpersonal skills, report writing, preparing statistical reports; demonstrated experience with writing grants
Demonstrated experience working with various cultural, ethnic, social-economic, and developmental backgrounds in a community-based setting;
Excellent leadership and team work skills;
Ability to work both independently (self-directed), but also able to collaborate effectively with other team members, and multi-task in a creative, dynamic environment
Superior organizational and communication skills;
Willingness to work flexible schedules, including evenings and occasionally weekends, commuting to various locations within the Priority Neighborhoods
Access to a vehicle is an asset
