POSITION: 2 Youth Assistant Mentors, temporary, part-time

 

LOCATION: North West Scarborough Youth Centre

 

DESCRIPTION:

YouthLink is seeking 2 Youth Mentors who will be located at our North West Scarborough Youth Centre location and be responsible for assisting the Graphic Arts Instructor with delivery of the Centre’s new ‘Inspiration through Design’ Graphic Arts program.  Specific responsibilities include:

 

Assist in the planning and designing of a 32 week graphic arts program aimed at youth 14-17 years old 

Engage youth program participants in a portion of the planning process

Work with Graphic Arts Instructor to provide instruction to two separate groups on various forms of graphic arts including comics, animé, graphic novels, Photoshop, print media, and design. 

Support youth participants in familiarizing themselves with different concepts of graphic design including various functions, principles and techniques as well as associated terminology

Provide mentorship to youth participants

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

2 years working knowledge with a Graphic Arts and Design background

Computer based skills (i.e. software and analytical skills)

Experience working with diverse populations or youth in group settings

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to build meaningful rapport with youth participants

Demonstrated initiate to learn leadership skills, conflict resolution skills and ability to work under pressure

Demonstrated time management skills and detail oriented

Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as part of a team

Afternoon and evening hours are required

 

 

HOURS OF WORK: 32 weeks; 6 hours per week (two days per week); evening work is required. 

 

PAY: $11.00/hour
