The Position…
Griffin Centre, in partnership with Across Boundaries: An Ethno-Racial Mental Health Centre, provides
community based mental health and substance abuse services to youth, ages 15 to 24, and their families in
the Jane/Finch area and surrounding communities at the Y-CONNECT program.
This is an exciting full time position for a dedicated individual who likes to “think out of the box”, who wants to
help individuals and communities to help themselves, and who can inspire confidence in our youth while
enhancing their skills.
This position, while part of Griffin Centre, is located in the Jane/Finch community and involves collaborating
with community members and local agencies to create services that are responsive to their needs.
Accordingly, this position will evolve over time, as community needs change.
Your Qualifications…
M.S.W., M.A. Counselling, Psychology, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
A strengths-based, anti-racism/anti-oppression, and youth engagement philosophy of service provision
and a belief in the resilience of youth;
Able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings;
Experience in providing outreach and community-based services (in home, school or community
locations) which reflect the rich diversity of the community served;
Experience in mental health/substance abuse service provision (individual counselling, family support,
groups) and an ability to provide services in “non-traditional” and culturally appropriate, community-based
ways which are responsive to the needs of youth and their families;
PC literate, with excellent oral and written communication skills as well as organizational skills;
The capacity to develop and nurture strong working relationships with community agencies and
community leaders;
Experience working in a multidisciplinary team setting and working in collaboration with other service
providers;
The following are assets in this position:
o knowledge of, and personal connections to LGBTQ communities of colour;
o fluency in a second language;
o knowledge of the Jane Finch community and newcomer communities;
o experience with submission of funding applications;
o a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable car with $1,000,000 in PL and PD insurance
coverage.
