For Youth Initiative (FYI) is a by-youth-for-youth, charitable organization that works primarily in the former City of York and parts of Etobicoke. FYI has five main programming streams: Life Skills, Recreation, Community Development, Cultural Production, and Female-Specific Programming. Overall, FYI aims to encourage civic engagement and increase access to employment, educational, recreational, economical and cultural opportunities for youth. FYI is a United Way member agency.
This position provides support to the Cultural & Media Arts stream of programming at FYI. As the support worker, you will work closely with the Coordinator in engaging young people by providing them with culturally competent programming that includes but is not limited to: a quarterly magazine called VICTORY! that is written and published entirely by youth and for youth, a weekly film club called Real To Reel that analyzes popular culture, access to interviews and excursions within the music and media industries, access to an on-site recording studio and dance space, and exposure to graphic arts as a means of self-expression.
