Location: YMCA Youth Outreach and Intervention, Employment & Community Programs, Toronto
Nature & Scope:
The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. YMCA Employment and Community provides programs for students, vulnerable youth and adults who are in transition. Youth Outreach and Intervention provides both residential and supportive counselling for youth at all stages along the risk continuum. YMCA Sprott House together with YMCA House creates a Youth Foyer Program. YMCA House provides emergency shelter to young men in immediate housing crisis while YMCA Sprott House provides affordable and supported housing to all eligible youth. The key principles are holistic provision of services to young people who are disadvantaged or generally in housing need, to assist them in the transition from dependence to independence. Youth Outreach and Intervention support services include substance abuse counselling through the Youth Substance Abuse Program (YSAP), pre-employment training with subsidy through O’Connor Focus and education and information through the Youth Gambling Awareness Project (YGAP).
Youth Outreach and Intervention is an access point for all youth who request support for housing or counselling. This may mean entry to YMCA House or YMCA Sprott House or referral to a partner agency, a landlord or a family mediator. Each year programs within Youth Outreach and Intervention serve over 3,500 youth on an individual basis. The General Manager of this unit is part of the Senior Leadership Team for the association.
Responsibilities:
Provides strategic leadership in proposal and program development and contract negotiation. Develops plans and takes action develop programs to add value to the community and to the YMCA. Strive to ensure the achievement of overall Association Strategic Objectives
Implements and adheres to Association policies, procedures and best practices. Proposes, develops and promotes adaptations as required to encourage the success of the YMCA Youth Outreach and Intervention Programs in its relations with community partners, governments and other institutions.
Develops annual budget and administers approved fiscal, program count and volunteer budget and service plans.
Creates and implements an annual Spirit of Giving philanthropic campaign in coordination with Philanthropy Unit. Provides leadership regarding the Centre’s philanthropic initiatives; builds and maintains relationships with key donors; demonstrates enthusiasm and success in fundraising activities.
Guides, motivates and inspires self and others to take action to achieve desired outcomes through proactive and supportive personal development, performance management and training programs. Ensures that success criteria for self, staff and programs are set, reviewed and surpassed to provide excellent program delivery.
Models appropriate behaviours to staff in line with our Mission, Vision and Values; establishes rapport and maintains effective relationship building behaviours with staff and members. Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
Understands and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism and imparts this knowledge and belief upon staff, volunteers and members.
Travel across the Greater Toronto Area is required.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· 5 years experience in a Management Role that shows progressive understanding of the YMCA, managing staff and ability to establish strong relationships with multiple community partners and government agencies
· Knowledge of Youth Outreach and Intervention Programs, and related legislation
· Familiarity with YMCA Four Fold Program (youth asset development, harm reduction, stages of change and health determinants)
· A proven track record of managing programs to reduce harm and build assets
· Previous experience in implementation and development of new programs and services an asset
· University degree preferred or College diploma in related field (preferably in Addiction or Social Work)
· Self-sufficient and takes initiative
· Well developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, funders, community partners, staff and volunteers; excellent written communication skills
· Excellent planning and organizational skills
· Able to lead multidisciplinary teams
· Able to work independently and within a senior leadership team
· Proficient with computer programs
· Strong skills in budget management , collaboration and negotiation
· Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
