The Ralph Thornton Centre is a City of Toronto supported community centre (one of the City’s agencies, boards and commissions) in the community of Riverdale in East Toronto. The Centre is a vibrant community gathering place, a service provider and a catalyst for community development. RTC is a lovely 1913 heritage site and provides an eclectic set of projects and services.
We are currently seeking a skilled senior manager to fulfill a short contract as our Program Director. The position will be for the period of mid – April to late - June, 2010 with the possibility of an extension.
Responsibilities
The position is responsible for the overall management of the Centre’s programs and services. The position is part of the senior management team at the Centre and ensures that programs and services achieve the centre’s mandate, goals and objectives and are in line with the City’s Relationship Framework.
1. Helps hire, supervises and manages staff performance ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality, organizational performance, continous learning/improvement and encourages innovation in others.
2. Responsible for a broad range of community, social, educational and recreational programs at the Centre.
3. Leads the service planning, program development and evaluation process for some public community programs using a community development, participant centred approach, that builds and strengthens communities and fosters broad social inclusion and public accountability.
4. Plays a lead role in program development and continuity through oversight of the development, preparation and submission of various funding applications. Ensures that programs and services meet funder and organizational expectations and contractual obligations while ensuring the appropriate use of public funds.
5. Develops and manages partnerships with community agencies, the City of Toronto, funders, local business and community members to provide accessible services that improve community well being.
6. Represents the Centre at broad community events, on committees, taskforces, etc., responds to residents’ concerns and issues, and provides information to the public.
7. Provides leadership in related annual program planning and ensures expenditures and revenues are controlled and maintained within approved limits.
8. Provides leadership in the Centre’s policy and procedures development including Health and Safety, operational and human resources policy development, organizational risk assessments and develops mitigating policy and practice.
9. Manages the Centre’s internal complaints process related to program delivery and ensures the delivery of high quality public services that meet City of Toronto standards and other best practices.
10. Ensures compliance with all applicable legislation including but not limited to Health and Safety, Collective Agreements, City of Toronto HR policies, ESA, etc. with support from management team.
11. Performs duties as the acting Executive Director and Executive Director’s designate as assigned.
12. Attends Board meeting and provides information, reports, updates and recommendations on programs, events and activities as requested.
13. Actively supports the Cente’s volunteer program and oversees and coordinates special events for the community including major fundraising initatives.
14. Seeks funds and program resources on a continuing basis.
Salary: Competitive
