POSITION: IRS-Employment Resource Centre (Summer Intern)
GENERAL FUNCTION: Responsible for assisting users with a focus on youth/students, to access the resources of the
Employment Resource Centre, providing individual guidance, user orientation and group workshops.
A. SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and deliver information sessions and workshops pertaining to use of the resource centre, summer job service, job
search, labour market information and computer usage.
Research, procure and keep updated materials, (i.e. periodicals, books, labour market information, new clippings,
software applications, etc.) related to a wide range of current employment, education and training opportunities,
including other student centres.
Provide one to one assistance for participants, using the Resource Centre, in areas such as resume, cover letter, word
processing and internet assistance and community referrals where appropriate.
Maintain client and employer information as required in particular the summer job postings.
Conduct orientation and group information sessions on the centre’s services, especially the summer programs.
Liase with counsellors regarding the progress of participants, and refer appropriate/eligible clients to Job Connect
services and other Employment and Training Centre programs.
Maintain accurate and up to date statistical information on clients attending orientation, workshops and using the
Resource Centre.
B. POSITION REQUIRMENTS: This position is made possible through HRSDC Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible
for this position the applicant must:
Be 15 to 30 years of age at the start of employment
Have been registered as a full time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time
basis in the upcoming academic year.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the
Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and be legally entitled to work in Canada
Have completed one year of community college or university with an interest and commitment in social/community
employment or human resource services.
Have some knowledge of employment/training resources and labour market information.
Have excellent communication and presentation skills.
Have demonstrated organizational abilities.
Have knowledge and understanding of the target/client group.
Have demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
Possess multicultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a multicultural/multiracial organization.
Have knowledge and facility in computer applications, including Internet, Windows 2000, MS Word, MS Outlook and
MS Access.

C: Salary $12.50 per hour
