Initiative Summary:
“I do!” is an extension of ACSA’s Forced Marriage Project, which works to raise awareness about forced marriages through Adult ESL classes and training for service providers. The Youth Initiative’s goal is to reach out to young women, a group that is most affected by forced marriages. Outreach will mainly occur in Scarborough, 30- 60 young women will be recruited to participate in three different creative arts workshops: Spoken Word Art, Graphic Novel Writing, and Journalism. Young women will learn and then express their views and understanding about forced marriages through these artistic forms. The resulting works and two weeks of the workshops (fourth and eighth) will be recorded and collapsed in to the form of a documentary to further educate youth, as well as, adults about the issue of forced marriages.
Contract Overview:
The “I do!” Initiative is seeking a media artist to create a documentary by filming our collection of Spoken Word Art, Graphic Novel Design and Journalism workshops. We intend on having the fourth and eighth workshop of the Graphic Novel and Spoken Word Sessions filmed to capture both the process of development and final project of each session. We are also open to creative suggestions on alternative ways to capture this content outside of the structured workshop sessions.
As for the journalism workshops the participating filmmaker will have to work with our participants’ flexible schedule and subjects to accommodate film (maybe during and/or outside of the scheduled workshops sessions). Moreover, the interviews may take place at our workshop location or offsite. Again, we are also open to creative suggestions on alternative ways to capture this content outside of the structured workshop sessions.
