Agincourt Community Services Association Internal/External Job Call Agincourt Community Services Association is a Non-Profit, multi service agency in the heart of Scarborough addressing needs and empowering children, youth newcomers and underserved communities to build a better tomorrow. We provide a range of social services and community engagement projects to the local community and a greater geographic area of Scarborough that includes several of the United Way high priority neighbourhoods. Our main activities include community supports, child and family programs, youth drop-in, young men's and women's programs, Youth Outreach Workers, homeless services, food security programs, community development work, and an information and referral services. Position: Parenting Project Coordinator Location: Scarborough Full-time Project Summary The Parenting Project recognizes the importance of resources for parents experiencing the many challenges of raising adolescents. The Project supports parents in understanding the many cultural, educational and social challenges facing their children and provides those parents with the necessary resources to raise more socially proactive youth. This project also helps develop a healthy community and will establish constructive relationships necessary to encourage community ownership while concurrently increasing access to services and supports that are necessary to break the cycle of alienation and hopelessness that exist among parents, youth and children who live in the community. Major Responsibilities • To develop parenting workshops on topics such as, Parenting in history, and in other countries and cultures, Filicide to assault, Parent Abuse, Discipline vs. Punishment, Money Management, Role of parents, Development of Boundaries, Dealing with sex and gender from family’s culture, peers school and the media perspectives, Adolescent mental, emotional, hormonal, sexual and intellectual development etc. • To develop and implement a community outreach plan utilizing the project’s community animators, local networks and resources to connect to the Project and its resources • To develop and implement quarterly Community Animator Training • Build the capacity of residents through and animator training to assist in the outreach and delivery of the parenting project • To coordinate the project’s publicity and outreach within the community to communicate current programming and solicit feed back for future needs. • To develop alongside the projects evaluators a comprehensive outcomes and process based evaluation plan to demonstrate specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-phased (SMART) outcomes • To work with residents, schools and other partner organizations in Scarborough to work with other program staff and volunteers to plan, carry out and evaluate programs • With support, provide weekly parenting meetings and ongoing counseling and support for families experiencing challenges within their families • To monitor and manage project’s budget from monthly cash flow charts provided by ACSA • To document as required including month and quarterly reporting as required by the agency and funder (financial and narrative) • Participate in staff meetings as required Preferred Qualifications Bachelors degree in education, social work, sociology or related field or nny combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an approved institution; certification as a Parent Project facilitator; extensive experience working in programs sponsored by education, government agencies, or community-based organizations; teaching, social work or counseling experience is desirable; experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of successful programs for children, youth and families including conducting workshops and working with multi-agency planning teams desirable. Knowledge of: • Various parenting support curriculums, CFSA and the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the public education system, youth development concepts, school safety/violence prevention strategies and family education/family-school involvement programs; • Recruitment and marketing techniques; • Appropriate program and fiscal management procedures to maintain an education-based program. Skill and Ability to: • Plan, implement and monitor parent education/family support group programs; • Develop program goals, set priorities, monitor expenditures and work collaboratively with stakeholders, residents, partners and local agencies; • Prepare and deliver presentations to recruit certified co-facilitators from law enforcement partner agencies • Prepare and deliver presentations to recruit parents at large and Community Animators • Provide training and supervision; • Communicate effectively in both orally and written form • Effectively able to communicate with local, regional and federal program representatives; • Administer day-to-day operations of support group and follow-up activities; • Conduct data collection processes and prepare reports; establish and maintain positive working relationships with department program staff, project partners, and other clients; • Prioritize requests; • Effectively multi-task as well as organize, schedule and coordinate a variety of activities and projects.
