POSITION: Placement Counsellor, Summer Jobs Service Program
GENERAL FUNCTION: Reporting to the School-to-Work Transition Program Co-ordinator, liaises with organizations in
the community to inform them of the program; employer outreach, matching, placement and monitoring of participants;
assisting with the delivery of group workshops and administrative tasks.
A. SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts outreach to organizations and employers in the community to provide information and encourage participation in the
program.
Responsible for ensuring interested youth and employers meet eligibility criteria for participation in the program
Provides intake/employment assessment and counselling, matches eligible youth participants to job opportunities
Completes employer site visits and contract signing at the onset of placement. Monitors placements, and provides on-going
support to participants and employers.
Conducts and/or assists with the delivery of job related workshops as well as, orientation and contract signing sessions, as
assigned.
Maintains client files and all other relevant documentation pertaining to the administration and delivery of the program in
accordance with government and agency standards.
Assists with the collection and compilation of statistical data, as well as the collection of participant time sheets and other
documentation related to payroll.
B. ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain all records required by St. Stephen's Community House and the ETC
Adhere to all House/ETC policies and procedures and ensure confidentiality is maintained on client, personnel and agency
matters.
Ensure good communication with ETC staff and keeps S.T.W. Co-ordinator apprized of all program issues
C. QUALIFICATIONS:
Completed 2nd year University or related Community College Diploma or Certificate in social work/social science or human
resource management or equivalent skills and related experience.
Some experience in career and employment guidance and counselling.
Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Access and Outlook required.
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Knowledge and understanding of the target group, labour market trends and job search methods.
Multicultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a multicultural/multiracial organization.
Second language an asset.
D SALARY: $12.50 per hour
