We’re looking for diverse young men and trans male youth, 16 to 29 years old to become PEER FACILITATORS

 

ReAct (Respect in Action) is a youth program of the Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence Against Women and Children (METRAC). It’s made up of young women and men Peer Facilitators who deliver interactive and empowering violence prevention workshops, trainings, and speaking engagements.  ReAct raises awareness, fosters discussion, validates the knowledge and expertise of youth, introduces community resources, and motivates youth to work towards a violence-free society.  Our workshop topics include Dating Violence, Intro to Anti-Oppression, Gender-Based Violence 101, and Empowerment.  For more information go to http://metrac.org/programs/info/speakers.htm

 

ReAct Peer Facilitators are volunteers who receive honorariums for the work they do. 

There is currently 1 position available on our team of facilitators.

 

Facilitator Responsibilities

· Lead workshops and speaking engagements in elementary, middle and high schools, detention centres, community centres, shelters, and other places youth go

  • Workshops are 1-3 hours long, and most facilitators lead 4-6 per month (average 8-12 hours/month)

·  Help to design workshops about violence against youth, women, and children

·  Attend ReAct meetings and trainings to build your skills and understanding about the issues (4-6 per year on average)

 

·  Participate in other opportunities to address gender-based violence against women and youth, as funding opportunities arise

 

Facilitator Qualifications

·  Ability to talk about violence against women, youth, and children and discrimination/oppression issues (e.g. racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ageism, ableism) in an integrated manner; dedication to working within an anti-oppression framework

·  Experience with making a positive difference in your community and/or working with youth

·  Experience with peer education and/or popular education

·  Dedication to maintaining a positive image of the program in communities and with youth workers/educators

·  Written and spoken fluency in English; other languages a strong asset

·  Comfortable doing public speaking, especially with other young women and young men

·  Good communication, organizing, and team work skills

·  Flexible schedule required (meetings and workshops happen during day and evening hours)

·  Creativity and enthusiasm; reliability; willingness to learn; openness
