SUMMARY:
Under supervision of the Camp Co-ordinator is responsible for providing a quality summer camp program for children ages six to twelve years.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Works with the Camp Co-ordinator, Camp Facilitator and other Senior Camp Counsellors in the operation and maintenance of a safe and healthy summer program on a daily basis.
2. Structures the planning and implementation of age appropriate, creative and stimulating program activities in co-operation with the Summer Camp staff team.
3. Attends all required training and orientation programs for the Summer Day Camp staff and volunteers.
4. Maintains constant awareness of the safety and general welfare of all campers at all times.
5. Maintains daily camper attendance and carries relevant registration records, health, and any other related participant information on all out trips.
6. Refers and documents all serious encounters, ie. accidents, conversations with parents, incidents among children, etc. to the Camp Co-ordinator.
7. Arrives for scheduled shifts on time and participates in weekly staff meetings on a regular basis.
8. Assists in co-ordination of fundraising and special events for the camp.
9. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Must meet the criteria as set out by the funders. Youth between the ages of 16 and 30 who are full-time students and returning to school in the Fall 2010.
Enrolled in a Degree or Diploma in a human service discipline and a minimum of one year of experience working with children ages six to 12 years of age.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrated background in planning and programming for children between the ages of six to twelve years.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in working with children from diverse social, cultural and economic backgrounds.
Skill in the use CPR and First Aid Procedures.
Salary Scale: $10.49/hr + 6% vacation and mandatory Employment Standards benefits
Start Date: June 22, 2010 – August 27, 2010; 40 hrs/wk
