Fight for Justice is currently seeking two volunteers to work within our Education Initiative. The Education Initiative is a ground breaking grass roots program that seeks to assist Black students in grades 3 to 8 who are not meeting the grade standards. Currently Fight for Justice has secured a partnership with Warden Avenue Public School, where we will launch our Educational Initiative in September 2010. The volunteers will work alongside a team of tutors, coordinators, teachers and parents to help students reach their academic potential.
Role and Responsibilities
· Assist parents in understanding report cards
· Assist parents in navigation of the school system
· Assist parents in communicating concerns to teachers and administration team
· Communicate the benefits to parents of attending parent- teacher meeting.
· Liaison between teachers and parents, and tutors and parents
· Progress meeting with parents once/ month
Qualifications
· Minimum high school diploma required
· Must have great communication skills
· Candidate must be patient
· Able to communicate with school administration team
· Able to advocate on behave of parents
· Able to understand the complexity of single parent household and adjust communication strategy
· Willing to do home visits in the Teesdale, Catarachi area
