Youth Worker - Outreach - Feb 24 deadline
Working in partnership with our communities, Delisle Youth Services (DYS) provides a wide range of comprehensive, individualized services for children, youth and their families. We aim to build community awareness and acceptance of youth and youth issues and to foster, recognize and showcase personal strengths and diversity amongst Toronto's youth community. We are currently accepting applications for the following:
Youth Worker specializing in Outreach
The Youth Worker will be involved in outreach activities to engage youth in accessing The Studio and will work collaboratively with youth, and staff, community groups and other key stakeholders to develop, implement and evaluate outreach strategies for the youth centre. This individual will also staff The Studio and mentor and support youth who come from diverse ethno-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, gender identities and sexual orientations. Principles of youth engagement and empowerment underpin the programming and operation of The Studio. A collaborative team based approach is used with the youth worker reporting to the Project Coordinator of The Studio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide supervision and guidance to youth who utilize The Studio
· Develop, implement and evaluate outreach strategies to youth to ensure they know about The Studio and the range of activities that take place there
· Utilize social media, email and our website as part of the overall outreach efforts to publicize events, engage youth and enhance program activities
· Responsible for daily updates on The Studio and STARS Facebook and website pages and for updating and distributing monthly calendar
· Mentor youth and provide informal confidential support
· Support youth to develop skills in managing peer and adult relationships, health, sexuality, and drug use
· Provide support to youth by directing them to workshops, formal and informal services
· Ensure that planned programs are successfully implemented
· Refer youth who are seeking more formal and/or intensive supports to appropriate services to meet their needs
· Ensure that youth-specific resources and literature is readily available and accessible.
· Maintain files and data base(s), responding to appropriate information requests, collecting intake information, registering youth for scheduled activities, collecting statistical data etc.
- Comply with all policies and procedures established by the agency/Ministry, residential licensing requirements, legislation related to employment such as the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Employment Standards, Ontario Human Rights and regulations, standards and guidelines relative to youth in care
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
· Previous youth engagement experience along with experience working with youth from diverse ethno-cultural, socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities
· Leadership experience such as youth mentoring and/or volunteering
· Understanding of outreach strategies and activities with youth in community based settings.
· Goal directed individual who is motivated and able to adapt to the needs of a new program
· Must have good communication, teamwork, leadership and advocacy skills and the ability to work independently
· Knowledge of social media, FaceBook and Google calendars
· Knowledge and skill in the areas of crisis intervention (T.C.I )is an asset
Critical Skills and Knowledge:
· Good verbal and written communication skills;
· Good interpersonal skills in order to effectively liaise with a variety of Agency staff, external professionals and individuals
Police Clearance:
· Satisfactory clearance under the Police Reference Check program.
Additional Requirements:
· Ability to work 1:00pm – 8:00pm at least 3 days a week from Monday to Thursday and occasional Fridays and/or weekends
