Youth Steering Committee Positions
Nia Centre is looking for Afro-diasporic youth leaders ages 16-25 to sit on our Youth Steering Committee (YSC). The YSC is made up of 11 members that will be responsible for shaping the programming and youth opportunities for the organization and most importantly, being Nia’s ear to the community. Youth who either love the arts or are artists themselves are encouraged to apply.
Nia Centre’s Mission is to become a community space focused on supporting the holistic advancement of Afro-Diasporic young people. Nia Centre for the Arts aspires to be a collaborative Art Centre that represents Afro-Diasporic arts and culture both locally and internationally, while working with young people through the arts to foster social change.
YSC tasks include, but are not limited to:
-Assisting with the development, implementation and facilitation of Nia Centre’s structure and programs
-Ensuring that the voices, interests and needs of youth in the various priority communities are included in the development and implementation of any Nia Centre initiative
-Participating in development and artistic workshops in addition to attending performance and artistic experiences across the city
-Committee meetings will be held the first Friday of every month (or more if required) for 11 months with two scheduled weekend retreats at the beginning and end of the year. As a part of this committee youth will gain accreditation, training, opportunities to meet new young people, go on trips outside of their community and gain new skills, knowledge and experiences.
