(Toronto, ON) UrbanArts’ After School Arts Program (ASAP) is accepting student registrants aged 11 to 17 years for this school year.  ASAP runs from Monday to Friday from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm throughout the school year. This year’s roster of facilitators will offer unique, highly-interactive and hands-on arts sessions and workshops that aim to develop young artistic minds and to pave the way for emerging young artists and leaders.

ASAP offers engaging and dynamic means of learning multi-disciplinary art forms. On Mondays, visual artist Jessica Volpe facilitates Graphic Design workshops and on Tuesdays, developmental education consultant, Jennifer Biggs, conducts Play-Based Learning sessions for ‘tweens & teens.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays, our Dance sessions are facilitated by the highly energetic Tiara Henderson.

Meanwhile, the Spoken Word sessions are conducted by Toronto’s award-winning emcee and spoken wordist, Motion, every Wednesday. She brings her creative stylings of beats and rhymes to power words into motion. Musician and producer, Freeway Freddy spearheads theMusic (Beats.Mind.Movement.)sessions on Thursdays and Fridays.

Have something to say?  Youth can now join our Road to Leadership Group (R2L) on Thursdays, hosted by local youth, LeSean Bentjagon and Junea Wright.

In addition, a new weekend Playwright Program ‘ So You Think You Can Write!’will start on Saturday, November 5th, conducted by writer and artist, Devon Haughton from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.

With the passionate belief that education is a good foundation on which raw talent may build, UrbanArts also offers the It’s A Girl Thing! Young Women’s Leadership Development Program and the Young Men’s Mentorship Program that started last October.   These lunch-time programs use the arts to creatively engage young women and men in local schools to address social issues.

Aside from receiving 25 hours of community service toward their OSSD, ASAP participants will be given the opportunity to showcase their talents and skills during UrbanArts Annual Winter Expo, slated for Thursday, December 8th 2011, from 6:30pm to 9:00pm at LEF Youth Centre, 1267 Weston Road.
